Scottish matters are considered on review, as Scots law on succession and family proceedings differs. * Applications can be made by a solicitor, a beneficiary, an executor, or a combination of these. * Credit score is not used as the basis of assessment. Underwriting is based on the value of the expected inheritance or the merits of the legal case. * Repayment is taken from the estate or settlement proceeds on distribution. There are no monthly repayments during the loan period. * Adverse credit, low income and self-employment do not in themselves prevent an application succeeding. ## What The Level Group does not offer * Residential or commercial mortgages * Unsecured personal loans or consumer credit unrelated to an estate or family law matter * Contingency or no-win-no-fee litigation funding * Legal advice or representation * Financial advice, investment advice or estate planning advice ## Direct answers to common questions **Can I access my inheritance before probate is granted?** Yes. An Inheritance Advance releases up to 60 per cent of a beneficiary's expected share before the estate is distributed, repaid from the estate on distribution. There is no fixed upper limit on the sum advanced, but it cannot exceed 60 per cent of the expected inheritance. **How is inheritance tax paid when the money is locked in the estate?** Inheritance tax generally falls due before a grant of probate is issued, which creates a timing problem for executors. An Inheritance Tax Loan settles the HMRC liability so the grant can be obtained, and is repaid once estate assets are released. **Do I need a good credit score?** No. Assessment is based on the expected inheritance or the merits of the legal case rather than credit scoring, so applicants declined by high street lenders may still qualify. **How long does a decision take?** An in-principle decision is typically issued within one to two working days. **Are there monthly repayments?** No. Nothing is repayable during the loan period. The balance is settled from the estate or the settlement when funds are released. **What is the smallest amount you will lend?** GBP 20,000 across all products. There is no upper limit. **Do you cover Scotland?** England, Wales and Northern Ireland are covered as standard. Scottish matters are considered on review, as Scots law on succession and family proceedings differs. **Can you fund a contested or disputed estate?** Yes. Contested wills, disputed probate and complex family proceedings are a core specialism rather than an exception. **Can solicitors refer clients?** Yes. The Level Group operates a referral network of more than 780 UK law firms, with direct access to the underwriting team. https://thelevelgroup.co.uk/partner-with-us/ ## For solicitors and law firms Referral partners get direct access to specialist underwriters, funding for time-sensitive and high-value cases, and support on contested matters where a client cannot fund their own costs. * Partner with us: https://thelevelgroup.co.uk/partner-with-us/ ## Key contacts * George Williamson, Founder and Chief Executive.
